Hamas Rejects U.S. Envoy's Proposal, Demands Clear Guarantee to End War
Senior Hamas official Dr. Basem Naim states group is open to negotiations but will not accept proposals that fail to ensure a complete halt to Israeli aggression
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Senior leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, Dr. Basem Naim, stated on Tuesday evening that the group has informed mediators of its readiness to engage in a new round of negotiations.
However, he emphasized that Hamas firmly rejects the latest proposal put forward by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, which fails to guarantee a permanent end to Israel’s war on Gaza.
In his remarks, which were reported by the Palestinian Information Center, Dr. Naim underscored that no agreement will be accepted unless it ensures a complete cessation of hostilities and aggression against the Gaza Strip.
U.S. Proposal a Departure from Previously Agreed Terms
Dr. Naim explained that the latest proposal brought by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff represents a significant departure from the framework previously agreed upon by the negotiating parties.
He noted that Witkoff's revised paper includes vague and ambiguous language, offering no firm guarantees to halt Israel’s military assault on Gaza. According to Dr. Naim, these changes undermine the credibility of the negotiation process and fail to meet the minimum conditions required by the Palestinian resistance.
International Consensus: Netanyahu Is Blocking the Deal
The Hamas official also pointed out that a growing number of countries, including Israel's own allies, are becoming convinced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the main obstacle preventing a ceasefire agreement.
Dr. Naim suggested that global awareness of Netanyahu's obstructionist stance is increasing, placing further pressure on the Israeli leadership and highlighting its unwillingness to bring the war to an end.
Dr. Naim reaffirmed that Hamas and all Palestinian factions remain committed to pursuing every serious opportunity to stop the war and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, provided there is a real and enforceable guarantee.
He stressed that the resistance movement will not squander any genuine chance to end the bloodshed in Gaza, but warned that vague proposals lacking binding terms will not be accepted.
The statement comes as humanitarian conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate, with ongoing Israeli bombardment causing massive civilian casualties and widespread destruction across the besieged enclave. (PW)
