Hamas: Arrest of Yahya Ayyash’s Wife Is a New Israeli Folly That Will Not Break Palestinian Resolve
Zahir Jabareen condemns Israeli detention of Om al-Baraa as reckless provocation, vows it will only fuel resistance in the occupied West Bank
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has condemned the Israeli occupation’s arrest of the wife of martyred resistance leader Yahya Ayyash, describing the move as a reckless act that will fail to undermine Palestinian resolve and instead intensify resistance against the occupation.
Zahir Jabareen, head of Hamas in the occupied West Bank, said the Israeli army’s public boasting about the detention of Om al-Baraa, the widow of martyr commander and engineer Yahya Ayyash, represents a new act of folly led by extremist Israeli figures and their allied gangs.
Hamas: Arrest Will Not Break Palestinian Women
In a press statement issued on Monday, Jabareen stressed that such practices will not weaken the determination of Om al-Baraa, nor will they affect the legacy of Yahya Ayyash, who, he said, humiliated the occupation through heroic resistance operations and shattered its image before the world.
He emphasized that Israel’s continued arrest of Palestinian women—particularly the wives and mothers of martyrs and prisoners—will inevitably provoke anger and backlash from the uprising youth and resistance fighters across the occupied West Bank.
Warning of Escalating Resistance
Jabareen warned that the occupation’s ongoing campaign against Palestinian women would backfire, triggering renewed confrontation with Israeli forces and settlers.
He affirmed that the will of the Palestinian people cannot be broken by the arrogance of the occupation or the brutality of its escalating aggression, adding that such crimes will become additional fuel for the continuation of heroic resistance operations and the expansion of confrontation with the occupation in all arenas.
Details of the Arrest in Nablus
Israeli occupation forces arrested Hiyam Ayyash, known as Om al-Baraa, at dawn on Friday after storming her home in the northern mountain area of Nablus, in the occupied West Bank.
Following the arrest, Israeli forces placed a sign at the entrance of Ayyash’s home stating that Om al-Baraa had been detained on allegations of “incitement via the internet.” The sign was accompanied by an image of a social media post attributed to her on Facebook, published on the anniversary of her husband’s martyrdom.
Palestinian Resistance Rejects Intimidation
Hamas officials stressed that such actions reflect the occupation’s policy of intimidation and collective punishment, asserting that targeting the families of martyrs will not erase their legacy nor deter Palestinians from resisting occupation and oppression.
Jabareen concluded that every act of repression carried out by the occupation only deepens Palestinian determination to continue the path of resistance until liberation. (PW)
