Hamas and Islamic Jihad Leaders Meet, Discuss Gaza Crisis and Negotiation Efforts
Joint Statement Highlights Genocidal War in Gaza, Heroic Resistance, and Conditions for Ceasefire and Reconstruction
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM – Senior leadership delegations from Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) met on Sunday to discuss the worsening political and humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in Gaza, which continues to endure what both groups described as a genocidal war waged by Israeli occupation forces.
The meeting, led by Mohammed Darwish, head of the Hamas Leadership Council, and Ziyad al-Nakhalah, Secretary-General of Islamic Jihad, underscored the ongoing suffering of Palestinians and evaluated the status of current ceasefire negotiations mediated by international actors.
Highlighting Massacres and Human Suffering
In a joint statement released by Hamas, the two delegations expressed deep concern over the massive humanitarian toll of the Israeli military campaign, emphasizing the daily massacres, starvation tactics, and the broader goal of Israel’s campaign to forcibly reshape the future of the Palestinian people.
"The delegations paused before the immense sacrifices of our people and the inhumane suffering caused by this war of extermination and starvation," the statement read, "as well as the horrifying scenes of daily massacres committed by the occupation to push forward its dangerous and malicious plans."
Praise for the Resistance
Both parties praised the heroism and resilience of Palestinian fighters on the ground, acknowledging their courage, determination, and ability to inflict significant losses on Israeli forces despite overwhelming odds.
"We salute the fighters’ brave performance marked by valor, boldness, and persistence, and the scale of losses they are inflicting on the enemy army daily," the statement continued.
Position on Negotiations
The meeting also addressed the ongoing negotiations facilitated by international mediators. Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad emphasized that any political process must be rooted in the legitimate rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
They reaffirmed that the primary objectives of any agreement must include:
A complete cessation of hostilities
Full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
Opening of all crossings
Comprehensive reconstruction of the Strip
The two groups also reviewed the Israeli response to recent proposals submitted by mediators and discussed appropriate strategies for responding to these developments.
The joint meeting underscores a unified stance among Palestinian resistance factions as diplomatic efforts continue in parallel with fierce battlefield resistance and mounting civilian casualties in Gaza. (PW)
