Hamas Agrees to Prisoner Exchange Under Trump Proposal
The Movement Stresses Readiness for Negotiations, Calls for War Cessation and Full Withdrawal from Gaza
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM – The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced on Friday evening its agreement to release all Israeli prisoners, both alive and the remains of the deceased, under the framework outlined in U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal, provided that conditions on the ground enable the exchange, and that it leads to an end to the war and the complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
In an official statement, Hamas confirmed that it had submitted its response to Trump’s plan following extensive consultations within its leadership institutions, broad discussions with Palestinian forces and factions, as well as consultations with mediators and allies. The movement affirmed its readiness to immediately enter mediated negotiations to discuss the details.
Acknowledgement of Efforts and Mediation
Hamas expressed appreciation for the Arab, Islamic, and international efforts — including those of U.S. President Donald Trump — aimed at halting the war on Gaza, facilitating the prisoner exchange, enabling immediate aid entry, and rejecting both the reoccupation of the Gaza Strip and the displacement of the Palestinian people.
The movement reiterated its approval to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to an independent Palestinian technocratic body, established through national consensus and backed by Arab and Islamic support.
National Framework on Core Palestinian Issues
Hamas clarified that other issues contained in President Trump’s proposal — particularly those tied to the future of Gaza and the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people — are subject to a unified national position.
These, it stressed, must be discussed within a comprehensive Palestinian national framework in accordance with international laws and relevant resolutions. Hamas stated it would be part of this collective framework and contribute to it with full responsibility.
Trump’s Threat and White House Position
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark ultimatum to Hamas, giving the Palestinian resistance movement until 6:00 p.m. Washington time on Sunday to accept his newly unveiled Gaza “peace” plan. He warned that “all hell” would break loose should the group refuse.
The ultimatum was delivered amid intense U.S.-Israeli coordination and has drawn wide condemnation from analysts and human rights advocates. They argue the move represents coercive diplomacy, prioritizing Washington’s political agenda over genuine peace.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reinforced the president’s tone during a Friday briefing, framing the proposal as Hamas’s “final opportunity” to avoid annihilation.
“Hamas has an opportunity to accept this plan and to move forward in a peaceful and prosperous manner in the region. And if they don’t, the consequences, unfortunately, are going to be very tragic,” she said.
Content of the Proposal: Disarmament and Foreign Oversight
Trump’s 20-point plan, unveiled alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sets Gaza’s future on conditions that critics say undermine Palestinian sovereignty. The main pillars include:
Hamas’s complete disarmament and the return of Israeli captives.
The creation of a foreign-supervised administration replacing local governance, to be managed by a non-political technocratic committee.
Gaza’s transformation into a “demilitarized zone” under the supervision of a newly established international Peace Council, chaired by Trump himself.
The Peace Council is set to include controversial figures such as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, whose name is linked to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Economic Incentives and Conditional Reconstruction
The plan promises a sweeping reconstruction program for Gaza under Western and Gulf sponsorship, but only after Hamas dismantles its military infrastructure.
Key features of the economic initiative include:
Establishing a special economic zone overseen by a consortium called the “Miracle Cities” team.
Attracting foreign investment and integrating Gaza into global capital flows.
Conditional amnesty for Hamas members who renounce armed struggle, with so-called “safe corridors” offered to those willing to leave Gaza — a clause widely criticized as forced expulsion.
A temporary multinational stabilization force — consisting of U.S., Egyptian, Jordanian, and Palestinian police units — would be deployed to manage border security and internal order. (PW)
