Hamas Affirms Readiness for Second Phase of Ceasefire
Hamas official Bassem Naim affirms readiness to engage positively in the next phase of the ceasefire plan, stressing full withdrawal from governance and warning of Israeli sabotage backed by U.S. cove
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Senior Hamas official Bassem Naim affirmed that the movement is fully prepared to engage in a positive and constructive manner with the second phase of the plan to halt the war on the Gaza Strip.
In press statements on Friday, Naim said that Hamas has clearly conveyed its position to the mediators regarding all components of this phase, foremost among them the formation of a fully empowered Palestinian body to administer the Gaza Strip, the opening of crossings in both directions, and Hamas’ complete withdrawal from the governmental scene.
Full Commitment to the Ceasefire Agreement
Naim stressed that Hamas has fully adhered to all provisions of the ceasefire agreement, as confirmed by the mediators and even by the U.S. side itself.
He emphasized that the movement has placed no obstacles in the political or humanitarian track, but has instead worked to stabilize the agreement and ensure its transition to the next phase in a way that serves the interests of the Palestinian people and alleviates their ongoing suffering.
Netanyahu Obstructing Implementation
Naim pointed out that delays and obstacles in implementing the plan stem from the insistence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on reneging on his commitments.
He warned that the ongoing military escalation aims to undermine the agreement and return to war, in an attempt by Netanyahu to salvage his political future after failing to achieve any of his declared objectives.
Continued Targeting of Civilians Under Ceasefire
Naim stated that Israeli occupation forces have continued to target civilians in the Gaza Strip despite the ceasefire, resulting in dozens of martyrs and wounded in recent days.
He stressed that such escalation cannot occur without U.S. cover or a green light, raising serious questions about the role and responsibilities of the American guarantor.
He added that the ongoing catastrophic humanitarian conditions in Gaza, combined with restrictions on the entry of aid and the opening of crossings, threaten to collapse the entire agreement.
Naim warned that maintaining the current situation will not bring security or stability to the region.
The Hamas official concluded by stressing that the current stage requires serious action from the mediators and international guarantors to ensure the implementation of the agreement in all its phases.
He warned that the expansion of tensions remains a real possibility under the current Israeli policies. (PW)
