Hamas: 87 Palestinian Women Enduring Harsh Conditions in Israeli Prisons
Pregnant women, minors, and sick detainees are being subjected to torture, medical neglect, humiliating searches, and detention without charge in conditions that constitute war crimes.
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Hamas said 87 Palestinian women, including pregnant women, minors, and sick detainees, are being held in harsh and inhumane conditions inside Israeli prisons, where they face torture, isolation, deliberate medical neglect, and repeated violations of their most basic human rights.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Hamas said the escalating abuses against Palestinian female detainees amount to war crimes under international law and represent a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and other international legal standards.
The movement said the women are being denied adequate medical care, proper nutrition, and necessary treatment, while also enduring repeated prison raids, humiliating strip searches, and administrative detention without formal charges.
Hamas said the treatment of the detainees exposes what it described as the “fascist face” of the Israeli government and its use of prisons as a tool to repress and break the will of the Palestinian people.
The statement also condemned the detention of Palestinian women over their opinions and social media posts, describing the practice as part of an escalating campaign of organized terror carried out by the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
Rights Groups Report Degrading Conditions
The Prisoners’ Information Office reported that female detainees are being deprived of essential clothing and religious necessities, including sufficient hijabs and prayer garments, forcing some prisoners to share headscarves under degrading circumstances.
The office said detainees face severe shortages of clothing and basic supplies. Daily access to prison yards is limited to one hour and must be used for bathing, cleaning, and outdoor time, while some rooms are denied yard access for several consecutive days and given only a few minutes to wash.
Recent prison raids have included degrading searches in which detainees were forced to lie face down in prison yards while being insulted, leaving both physical and psychological effects.
Call for Immediate International Action
Hamas called on the United Nations, international human rights and humanitarian organizations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to urgently document the abuses, pressure for the immediate release of all Palestinian female detainees, and hold Israeli leaders accountable for what it described as ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people.
The movement said the suffering of Palestinian women in Israeli prisons reflects a broader campaign of repression, and urged the international community to ensure that detainees are granted their basic humanitarian and religious rights with dignity and respect. (PW)
