Gaza Health Ministry Warns of Accelerating Catastrophic Famine in Gaza Strip
August records highest monthly death toll from malnutrition in months, with children and pregnant women hardest hit
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Ministry of Health in Gaza has warned of a rapid escalation in the catastrophic consequences of famine across the Gaza Strip, as official data shows a sharp rise in deaths linked to malnutrition.
According to the ministry’s latest report, 185 deaths due to malnutrition were recorded in August — the highest monthly toll in recent months. Among these were 70 deaths, including 12 children, since the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) declared the Gaza Strip a famine zone.
The ministry stated that 43,000 children under the age of five are currently suffering from malnutrition, along with more than 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women. Alarmingly, 67% of pregnant women are suffering from anemia, marking the most dangerous rate in years.
The Health Ministry warned of the severity of these indicators and the limited capacity of emergency response efforts, citing a critical shortage of food and medical supplies.
