Explosion at Chinese Restaurant in Kabul Kills 7
Blast hits Chinese Noodle restaurant in Shahr-e-Naw district; Chinese Muslim and six Afghans among the dead
Afghanistan | PUREWILAYAH.COM — An explosion at a Chinese restaurant in central Kabul on Monday killed at least seven people and wounded more than a dozen others, according to Afghan emergency services and police officials.
The blast struck the Chinese Noodle restaurant in the Shahr-e-Naw area, a district known for its flower sellers. An Agence France-Presse journalist at the scene reported the presence of police vehicles and an ambulance shortly after the explosion.
Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said the restaurant primarily served Chinese Muslims and confirmed the fatalities.
“A Chinese Muslim, Ayub, and six Afghans were killed, and several others were wounded. The blast occurred near the kitchen,” Zadran said in a statement.
Zadran added that the cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Earlier police information had described the site as a hotel before confirming the restaurant as the target.
The Afghan branch of the Islamic State later claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was carried out by a suicide bomber. (PW)
