DPRK’s Kim Yo Jong Slams Japan’s Dangerous Revival as a ‘War State’ Under US Patronage

Condemning Tokyo’s remilitarisation and refusal to atone for its dark imperialist past, Pyongyang warns of new military countermeasures as Japan expands its offensive capabilities alongside Washington

In a blistering condemnation of Tokyo’s accelerating militarisation, Kim Yo Jong, a senior official of the Workers’ Party of Korea, has issued a stern warning to Japan, accusing the nation of shedding its post-WWII pacifist facade to once again transform into a “war state” under the direct patronage of the United States.

In a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Yo Jong strongly criticised Japan’s aggressive military buildup, pointing to its expanding defence spending, acquisition of offensive missile capabilities, and deepening military cooperation with Washington.

“A War Criminal State” Returns to its Old Ways

“Japan, a war criminal state, is accelerating its transformation into a war state,” Kim declared, referencing the brutal imperialist atrocities committed by Tokyo across Asia during the 20th century—crimes for which Japan has never fully atoned or compensated its victims.

Kim warned that Pyongyang’s leadership is now forced to “set up additional military options which are obviously due to Japan’s transformation.” She made it unequivocally clear that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) “will never remain a passive onlooker to the military evolution of Japan which may pose a grave threat.”

Tomahawks and US-Led Aggression

To justify its harsh stance, the DPRK official cited several recent and alarming developments in Japan’s military posture. These include Tokyo’s integration and test-firing of US-made Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles, as well as its participation in aggressive US-led military drills in the Philippines.

Kim slammed these manoeuvres as clear evidence of Washington’s active support for “dangerous military moves” in the Pacific, designed to encircle and provoke independent nations in the region. Furthermore, she exposed Tokyo’s covert ambitions, stating that Japan is actively moving “to formulate the possession of the capability for preemptive attack”—a direct violation of the defensive military posture it was legally bound to after its defeat in World War II.

Shedding the Pacifist Constitution

Over the past few years, Japan has been systematically dismantling its post-WWII pacifist constitution. Driven by US pressure and using regional tensions as a pretext, the Japanese government has drastically increased its military budget, forged new defence pacts, and deployed offensive missile launchers to its outer islands.

This alarming trend of “new militarism” has not gone unnoticed by other independent nations resisting US hegemony. China, a key ally of the DPRK, has recently echoed similar alarms, strongly condemning Japan’s dangerous trajectory and warning that the resurgence of Japanese militarism poses a severe threat to regional and global stability.

As the US attempts to drag its allies into a new era of global confrontation, Pyongyang’s message to Tokyo serves as a stark reminder: the ghosts of imperialist aggression will be met with unwavering resistance.
