Director of Al-Shifa Hospital: Gaza’s Health Crisis Hits Unprecedented Levels of Devastation
Dr. Abu Salmiya Warns of Rising Death Toll Due to Lack of Medical Care and Israeli Attacks on Health Facilities
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Dr. Mohamed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital, has warned that the health sector in the Gaza Strip has sharply deteriorated due to the acute shortages of medicines and medical supplies resulting from the Israeli closure of border crossings.
“There is an unprecedented decline in public health and the medical services provided for wounded and sick people have been affected significantly,” Dr. Abu Salmiya said in press remarks to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Saturday.
Devastating Impact on Gaza's Public Health
“43 percent of the kidney failure patients in Gaza have died to the lack of necessary treatment provided for them. Additionally, Gaza children suffer from immunodeficiencies due to severe malnutrition resulting from the prolonged lack of access to essential nutrients found in fruits, vegetables and healthy food,” Dr. Abu Samiya added.
The doctor pointed out that many patients admitted to Gaza hospitals are diagnosed with conditions related to malnutrition.
He also accused the Israeli occupation army of systematically targeting medical facilities and destroying their equipment, including laboratories. (PW)
