Denmark Boosts Military Presence Around Greenland Amid Trump Threats
Europe | PUREWILAYAH.COM — Denmark’s Ministry of Defence has announced a significant increase in its military presence in and around Greenland following escalating threats by U.S. President Donald Trump to seize the territory, including by military force.
The Danish ministry said the move is being carried out in coordination with the government of Greenland and other NATO allies.
Military Deployment in the North Atlantic
According to the Ministry of Defence, the expanded presence will include the deployment of naval vessels, aircraft, and Danish armed forces personnel in and around Greenland.
The ministry stated that the objective is to strengthen security efforts in the North Atlantic region and protect critical infrastructure necessary for regional stability.
EU Considers Retaliatory Measures Against the U.S.
The announcement follows reports that the European Union is reviewing multiple response options should Washington act on Trump’s threats to seize Greenland.
Britain’s The Telegraph reported that options under consideration include the suspension of operations by major U.S. technology companies such as Meta, Google, Microsoft, and X, as well as potential restrictions on U.S. banks and financial institutions operating in Europe.
More extreme measures reportedly being discussed include the expulsion of U.S. troops from European territory, a move that would severely restrict Washington’s ability to use European bases for military operations in West Asia and beyond. (PW)
