Cuba Backs Venezuela, Denounces US Naval Blockade Threats
Havana condemns US escalation as a grave violation of international law and reaffirms full support for President Nicolás Maduro
Cuba, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The government of Cuba on Tuesday rejected new threats issued by US President Donald Trump against Venezuela, including the announcement of a naval blockade on oil tankers and the designation of the government of President Nicolás Maduro as a “foreign terrorist organization.”
The Cuban response followed Washington’s declaration ordering a total and complete blockade of all oil vessels entering or leaving Venezuela.
Díaz-Canel Expresses Full Support for Caracas
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel publicly rejected the US measures in a statement published on his X account, expressing firm solidarity with the Venezuelan leadership.
“We firmly support President Nicolás Maduro, the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution, and its Popular–Military Union,” Díaz-Canel stated.
“Our total support goes to the statement published by the Venezuelan government.”
Cuban Foreign Minister: US Action Violates International Law
Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, described the US move as a serious breach of international norms.
Rodríguez said the measure represents a “grave violation of international law and an escalation of aggression against the Bolivarian government.”
The Cuban government’s statement was issued in direct response to the US announcement declaring Venezuela a foreign terrorist organization and ordering a comprehensive blockade of oil shipments.
US Escalation Follows Tanker Seizure
The announcement by Washington came six days after the seizure of an oil tanker off Venezuela’s coast, a move that significantly intensified pressure on the government of President Nicolás Maduro.
According to Venezuelan authorities, the measure aims to impose what they described as an “absolutely irrational military naval blockade.”
Officials in Caracas stated that the true objective of the US decision is the seizure of Venezuela’s natural and mineral wealth.
The government of President Maduro said that Washington’s actions are part of a long-standing strategy to appropriate Venezuela’s oil, land, and minerals through “massive campaigns of lies and manipulation.” (PW)
