Clarification as a Sacred Duty: Truth Promoters’ Eighth Night of Ashura Program
In an age of noise and evasion, true devotion begins with the courage to clarify. Night eight of Ashura becomes a mirror for our silence—and a call to speak the truths that matter most.
PUREWILAYAH.COM — On the eighth night of its Ashura 1447 program, Truth Promoters continued its internationally streamed commemorations with a powerful message on the sacred responsibility of tabyeen—clarification—delivered by Sheikh Shabbir Hassanally. The full program, broadcast live on YouTube, followed the collective’s consistent spiritual structure: Qur’an recitation, poetic couplets, the central majlis, maqtal, latmiya, and Ziyarah Ashura.

The evening began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, grounding the audience in divine remembrance and setting a reflective tone. This was followed by a contemplative presentation of poetic couplets, capturing themes of grief, loyalty, and resilience—preparing the spiritual atmosphere for the core message of the night.
“Tabyeen – The Subjects in Need of Clarification”
The centerpiece of the program was a dynamic and thought-provoking lecture by Sheikh Shabbir Hassanally, who addressed the moral and strategic burden placed on religious voices during times of ideological confusion and spiritual erosion.
Tabyeen—the act of clarifying truth—is not, he emphasized, a rhetorical choice, but a Divine mandate. True religious duty requires identifying which truths are under attack and articulating them boldly, even when inconvenient or dangerous.
Sheikh Shabbir outlined four critical insights:
Clarification is a Divine obligation, not a suggestion.
Religious leaders must address the real ideological threats of their time—Muslim identity, the system of wilayah, and the inseparable bond between religion and politics.
Speaking only on safe or secondary topics during a crisis undermines the Ummah’s intellectual defenses.
Remaining silent out of fear or social caution is not neutrality—it is complicity.
A particularly sharp critique was directed toward those who avoid politically or theologically "sensitive" issues under the guise of maintaining unity. Sheikh Shabbir refuted this idea, stating that unity built on ambiguity is fragile and false.
“By refusing to clarify the truth about issues like divine leadership or the manipulation of religion by secular agendas,” he warned, “you are not preserving peace—you are enabling confusion.”
Another standout moment came when he challenged the tendency toward performative piety: speaking only within socially approved boundaries while avoiding discomfort. This, he said, is not devotion but self-preservation masquerading as principle.
“If your speech never threatens falsehood,” he declared, “then you are not confronting it.”

Maqtal: The Martyrdom of Ali al-Akbar
Following the majlis, the program transitioned to the maqtal—a sorrowful recounting of the martyrdom of Ali al-Akbar (AS), the son of Imam Hussain (AS). Renowned for his resemblance to the Prophet Muhammad (SAAW) in both appearance and character, Ali al-Akbar entered the battlefield with fearless resolve. His final moments, pierced by a fatal spear, and the grief-stricken reaction of his father, remain among the most heart-rending scenes of the Karbala narrative.
🩸 Maqtal segment:
Latmiya: “I Am Ashamed”
This night’s lamentation, “I Am Ashamed”, gave voice to a deep spiritual anguish. The poem confessed to falling short in embodying the values upheld by Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions—values of justice, resistance, and unwavering moral clarity. Yet within the sorrow was a plea for redemption, ending with hope in Hussain’s mercy and the healing power of sincere remembrance.
🎵 Latmiya:
Ziyarah Ashura: The Communion of Loyalty and Defiance
The program closed with a poetic interpretation of Ziyarah Ashura titled “The Communion of Ashura.” More than a devotional recitation, it served as a political and spiritual manifesto—affirming lifelong allegiance to Imam Hussain (AS), renouncing the oppressors of every age, and renewing the call to stand with the truth in all circumstances. It powerfully linked the legacy of Karbala to ongoing struggles against injustice in today’s world.
