China Warns of Global Consequences After US Abduction of Venezuelan President
Beijing Demands Immediate Release, Warns of Grave Violation of International Law
China | PUREWILAYAH.COM — China has issued a forceful condemnation of the United States over the forcible kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, denouncing the operation as a flagrant violation of international law and a dangerous escalation that threatens regional stability.
In a statement released Sunday, China’s Foreign Ministry accused Washington of abducting a sitting head of state from sovereign territory through the use of force, calling the act reckless, unlawful, and deeply destabilizing for Latin America and the Caribbean.
China Demands Immediate Release and Accountability
China called for the immediate and unconditional release of President Maduro and his wife, stressing that the United States bears full responsibility for their safety following what Beijing described as an illegal removal carried out outside any recognized legal framework.
“China calls on the United States to ensure the personal safety of President Maduro and his wife, immediately release them, and resolve this issue through dialogue,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Beijing underscored that no country has the right to seize another nation’s leader under the pretext of unilateral accusations or extraterritorial enforcement.
Blatant Use of Force Against a Sovereign State
The Chinese government described the US operation as a blatant use of force that shattered diplomatic norms and openly violated Venezuela’s sovereignty.
“China is deeply shocked by and strongly condemns the United States’ blatant use of force against a sovereign state and its president,” the statement said, adding that the act seriously violates international law and threatens peace and security across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Officials warned that such actions undermine the very foundations of the international system, particularly the principle of sovereign equality enshrined in the UN Charter.
Washington Accused of Hegemonic Lawlessness
Beijing framed the kidnapping as yet another manifestation of US hegemonic behavior, accusing Washington of resorting to coercion and brute power rather than political engagement.
“We call on the United States to abide by international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and to stop violating other countries’ sovereignty and security,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
China rejected any attempt to justify the abduction through criminal allegations, emphasizing that regime change imposed through force has no legal or moral legitimacy.
Political Future Must Be Decided by Venezuelans
China stressed that Venezuela’s political future cannot be dictated through armed raids, sanctions, or unilateral decrees issued from abroad.
Beijing reiterated that any resolution to Venezuela’s internal affairs must come through dialogue and negotiation led by Venezuelans themselves, free from foreign coercion or military pressure.
Kidnapping Raises Global Alarm Over US Conduct
The incident has triggered renewed international concern over US extraterritorial actions and the precedent set by the abduction of a sitting head of state.
Such conduct accelerates the erosion of international norms and normalizes lawlessness under the guise of enforcement, increasing the risk of global instability. (PW)
