China Condemns Israel’s Settlement Expansion Over Occupied West Bank
Beijing denounces new Israeli settlement measures, warns against annexation and escalation in occupied Palestinian territory.
China | PUREWILAYAH.COM — China has expressed firm opposition to Israel’s latest decisions expanding illegal settlements and strengthening control over the occupied West Bank, reiterating that the two-state solution remains the fundamental framework for resolving the Palestinian issue.
Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that Gaza and the West Bank are “inseparable” parts of Palestinian territory.
His remarks were reported by the state-affiliated outlet Global Times.
Beijing Rejects Settlement Expansion and Annexation Attempts
Lin said China has consistently opposed the construction of new Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory, as well as any attempts to annex or encroach upon Palestinian land.
“China has consistently opposed the construction of new settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory and opposed all attempts to annex or encroach upon Palestinian territory,” he said, adding that such actions undermine the political foundation of the two-state solution.
Warning Against Escalation in Gaza and the West Bank
The spokesperson warned that the current situation in Gaza remains highly fragile and urged relevant parties to avoid actions that would intensify tensions or further destabilize the region.
He stressed that unilateral measures altering realities on the ground would only deepen contradictions and escalate the situation.
China’s statement came after Israel’s security cabinet approved new measures aimed at expanding illegal settlement construction and consolidating Israeli control over the occupied West Bank.
According to Israeli media, the decisions include repealing a law that barred the sale of land in the West Bank to Israeli settlers, unsealing land ownership records, and transferring authority over building permits in a settlement bloc near Hebron from a Palestinian municipality to Israel’s civil administration.
Lin reiterated that the two-state solution remains the fundamental path to resolving the Palestinian struggle, in line with international law and United Nations resolutions.
This position underscores China’s continued opposition to Israeli settlement expansion and its rejection of policies aimed at entrenching occupation over Palestinian land. (PW)
