CENTCOM Claims Complete Withdrawal While Maintaining Military Posture in Syria
US Central Command confirms its withdrawal from Syria’s Al-Tanf base, while claiming forces remain on alert to respond to any ISIS-related threats.
Syria | PUREWILAYAH.COM — The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed the completion of an “orderly departure” of American forces from the Al-Tanf base in southern Syria, ending years of military presence at the strategic site.
According to a CENTCOM statement, the withdrawal was conducted on February 11 as part of what it described as a deliberate, conditions-based transition under the framework of the US-led anti-ISIS coalition.
The Al-Tanf base had operated without the consent of the Syrian government, drawing repeated criticism from Damascus over violations of national sovereignty.
Continued Military Posture
In the statement, CENTCOM claimed that despite withdrawing from the Al-Tanf base, American forces remain on alert and asserted that they would respond to any potential threat from the terrorist group ISIS.
In its statement, the US command claimed that over the past two months, American forces carried out more than 100 strikes against ISIS-related targets and detained or killed more than 50 individuals allegedly affiliated with the group.
However, CENTCOM did not disclose detailed information regarding the locations or specific nature of these operations.
The command added that Washington continues to monitor security developments in Syria and the wider region, signaling that while the Al-Tanf base has been vacated, US military involvement in Syria has not fully ended. (PW)
