ROME — In a powerful display of moral defiance, approximately 150 Catholic priests, friars, nuns, and a bishop marched toward the Vatican on Tuesday, condemning the Zionist regime’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and demanding an immediate end to the massacre of Palestinian civilians.
The procession, organised by the international “Priests Against Genocide” network, moved along the main boulevard leading to St. Peter’s Basilica, where the clergy held prayers in solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine and Lebanon. Italian police accompanied the march, which remained outside Vatican territory.
Participants carried a large shroud bearing the names of some 300 Palestinian and Lebanese children martyred by Israeli forces — many killed after so-called ceasefire agreements were declared — placing the deliberate targeting of children at the centre of their condemnation.
A Growing Global Clergy Uprising
The “Priests Against Genocide” network, established in August 2025, has expanded rapidly across five continents, now claiming over 2,500 priests and bishops among its members. Tuesday’s demonstration drew a significantly larger turnout than a similar action held last year, signalling a deepening moral revolt within the Church against Western silence on Zionist crimes.
Among the participants was Franco Moscone, Bishop of Manfredonia in southern Italy, whose presence underscored the growing willingness of senior clergy to publicly challenge the narrative shielding the occupying entity from accountability.
From Vatican Gates to the Doors of the Arms Industry
In a pointed act of defiance, the clergy extended their march beyond the Vatican, proceeding to the Palestinian and Lebanese embassies before converging on the Rome headquarters of Leonardo SpA, Italy’s leading defence manufacturer.
The decision to conclude the demonstration at the doors of an arms producer laid bare the complicity of Western military-industrial complexes in fuelling the genocide. By naming Leonardo SpA directly, the clergy exposed the pipeline of weapons that continues to arm the Zionist entity even as tens of thousands of civilians are massacred.
Over 73,000 Martyred in Gaza
The march comes as Gaza’s health authorities report that more than 73,000 Palestinians have been martyred since October 2023, amid relentless bombardment, widespread destruction, and the repeated forced displacement of the Strip’s entire population.
The testimony of the clergy stands as a damning indictment of Western governments that continue to provide diplomatic cover and military support to the occupying regime, while the blood of children dries on the streets of Gaza.
