BRICS Leaders Hold Extraordinary Virtual Summit, Response to Western Pressure
Lula, Xi, Putin, and Sisi Condemn U.S. Tariffs, Double Standards, and the Erosion of Global Stability
Brazil, PUREWILAYAH.COM - In a powerful show of unity, BRICS leaders held an extraordinary virtual summit on Monday, initiated by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, to confront the growing economic and geopolitical pressure from the United States and its allies.
The meeting — attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi — focused on safeguarding the multipolar world order and formulating a coordinated response to Washington’s tariffs, sanctions, and military-backed foreign policy.
The summit, held behind closed doors, addressed a wide range of issues, including the Ukraine crisis, the ongoing Israeli assault on Palestine, and the need for a fairer international economic system.
Brazil: Realism Over Escalation
President Lula da Silva stressed that the conflict in Ukraine cannot be resolved through military escalation or one-sided narratives.
“A realistic solution must respect the legitimate security concerns of all parties,” Lula stated.
On the Palestinian issue, Lula demanded an immediate halt to Israeli military actions, calling for a political process that protects the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.
Lula also pointed to recent diplomatic moves — including talks between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump — as potential steps toward peace, contrasting them with the West’s continued militarization of crises.
China: Confronting Hegemonism
President Xi Jinping delivered a sharp critique of unilateralism and economic coercion by “certain countries” — a clear reference to the United States.
“Hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism are becoming increasingly rampant. Trade and tariff wars seriously undermine the world economy,” Xi warned.
Xi reaffirmed China’s alignment with Brazil’s positions on Ukraine and Gaza, and urged BRICS nations to deepen their economic cooperation, defend international trade rules, and reject the economic blackmail that has become a hallmark of Western foreign policy.
Egypt: Rejecting Double Standards
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi condemned the entrenched double standards in global affairs, describing them as a major driver of instability and injustice.
“Today the world is engulfed in blatant dualism, double standards, and systemic impunity,” Sisi declared.
He stressed that BRICS offers a unique platform to build a more balanced global order that does not allow powerful nations to act as judge, jury, and executioner in world affairs.
Russia: Strategic Silence, Clear Position
Although Russian President Vladimir Putin’s speech was closed to the press, the Kremlin confirmed that discussions centered on enhancing BRICS cooperation in trade, finance, and investment, while coordinating resistance to U.S. sanctions and protectionist measures.
Putin’s participation from his Sochi residence symbolized Moscow’s commitment to the BRICS vision of a multipolar, sovereign, and independent world order.
A Rising Counterweight to Western Domination
The extraordinary summit reinforced BRICS as the principal counterbalance to Western-controlled institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, and NATO-aligned trade networks.
By standing together against unilateralism, rejecting double standards, and promoting economic sovereignty, BRICS nations sent a clear message: the era of unchallenged Western dominance is over, and the future belongs to a multipolar world built on fairness, mutual respect, and cooperation. (PW)
