In a stunning admission of Western strategic failure, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has openly condemned Washington’s reckless military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, confessing that the United States walked directly into an “obvious trap.”
Speaking at the Economic Times World Leaders Forum in New Delhi, Johnson described the unprovoked US assault as a catastrophic “mistake” devoid of any coherent strategy or defined objectives. His remarks serve as a glaring acknowledgement of the miscalculations made by imperialist powers when confronting the deterrence and strategic depth of the Axis of Resistance.
Johnson expressed deep regret that Washington launched the attack without consulting its closest ally, Britain. He insisted that London could have played a decisive role in preventing this disastrous miscalculation. “I really think we could have prevented falling into an obvious trap,” the former premier stated, pointing to the flawed calculations of American planners. He argued that British officials should have aggressively demanded answers from US leadership—specifically citing former US President Donald Trump and the Pentagon—prior to the aggression. Key questions, he noted, should have focused on the true goals of the war and contingency plans for a legitimate and forceful Iranian response, including the potential closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The ex-British leader did not spare his own government, fiercely criticising the UK’s security and intelligence services for failing to warn London that Washington was marching blindly into a “terrible trap.” Johnson noted that, as America’s most loyal ally, Britain had a fundamental duty to scrutinise the objectives and inevitable consequences of such reckless imperial adventurism.
Conceding that the United States is now trapped in a complete “dead end,” Johnson stressed the urgent need for Washington to reverse course. He called for coordinated efforts between the US, UK, and India to stabilise volatile oil markets and restore disrupted shipping routes.
Most importantly, the former UK premier emphasised that military adventurism has failed, and diplomacy is now the only path forward. “We must find a way to reach an agreement with Iran,” Johnson declared.
