Battle for Bint Jbeil Intensifies as Hezbollah Repels Israeli Advance in Close-Range Fighting
Hezbollah blocks Israeli advance in Bint Jbeil as fierce close-range battles continue, with mounting casualties and no breakthrough despite heavy airstrikes and siege
Lebanon, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Fierce ground battles are ongoing in Bint Jbeil, southern Lebanon, as Hezbollah fighters continue to engage Israeli occupation forces in sustained close-quarters combat, preventing any decisive advance into the town.
According to field reports cited by Al Mayadeen, Israeli troops — including elite units — have so far failed to secure key positions inside Bint Jbeil despite continuous airstrikes, artillery shelling, and an ongoing siege. The fighting remains concentrated around the outskirts of the old market area, where confrontations have reached point-blank range.
Israeli forces have been unable to reach strategic points inside the town, including the municipal stadium, a site of symbolic and operational significance. The situation on the ground indicates restricted movement by Israeli troops, alongside a reduction in deployed personnel and vehicles, as the army seeks to limit further losses.
Ambush Incident Reported Amid Ongoing Clashes
In a separate development, a field report indicated that an Israeli unit was targeted in a pre-planned ambush inside the town. Hezbollah fighters reportedly lured the force into a building before detonating it, resulting in casualties.
The incident is believed to correspond to a “security incident” referenced earlier by Israeli media, although no official confirmation has been issued regarding the exact circumstances.
Subsequently, Israeli forces have increasingly relied on unmanned and remotely operated vehicles to probe positions inside Bint Jbeil, indicating a shift in operational tactics amid continued resistance on the ground.
Casualties Reported on Israeli Side
Israeli media reported that the commander of Battalion 52 was seriously wounded during clashes in Bint Jbeil. Additional reports indicate that a large number of Israeli soldiers were wounded, including injuries sustained in close-range engagements.
Throughout the day, military helicopters were observed transporting wounded soldiers from the frontlines in southern Lebanon to hospitals. Overnight, at least ten soldiers from Battalion 101 of the Paratroopers Brigade were reportedly injured during fighting inside the town, with three listed in critical condition.
Evacuation operations included both airlifts and ground transfers, according to the same sources.
Strategic Importance of Bint Jbeil
Bint Jbeil remains a key strategic location in southern Lebanon due to its proximity to the border and its position overlooking multiple access routes. The town connects several critical road axes linking Maroun al-Ras, Tebnine, Aitaroun, and Rmeish, while also providing access toward Tyre through the broader road network.
Its elevated terrain offers operational oversight of surrounding areas, enhancing its military significance in ongoing confrontations.
Control of Bint Jbeil provides both tactical depth and influence over nearby villages, making it a recurring focal point in clashes between Israeli forces and Lebanese resistance groups.
Historical and Symbolic Context
Beyond its military relevance, Bint Jbeil carries longstanding symbolic weight. The town has historically been associated with resistance movements, dating back to the French Mandate period and continuing through the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon between 1982 and 2000.
It was also a central battleground during the 2006 war, where intense fighting between Hezbollah and Israeli forces took place.
As clashes continue, Bint Jbeil remains both a strategic objective and a symbolically significant location in the ongoing escalation along the Lebanon–Israel frontier. (PW)
