Barghouti: Netanyahu’s UN Speech Shows Israel’s Growing Isolation
Barghouti urged the international community to impose and expand sanctions against the occupation, including military restrictions, while also advocating for the severance of economic ties
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the UN General Assembly has only deepened Israel’s diplomatic isolation, calling it “full of lies that portrayed the criminal as the victim.”
Isolation and Calls for Sanctions
In remarks to Al Mayadeen, Barghouti stressed that developments at the United Nations prove “the world is changing, and Israel is becoming increasingly isolated.”
He urged the international community to impose and expand sanctions against the occupation, including military restrictions, while also advocating for the severance of economic ties.
Barghouti further called on Arab states to step up at this critical juncture and support the Palestinian cause more decisively.
Rejection of Foreign Administration and Blair’s Role
Responding to reports suggesting that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair might be appointed to oversee the Gaza Strip, Barghouti dismissed the notion as an “insult.”
He affirmed that Blair, or any foreign figure seeking to govern Palestinian affairs, is categorically rejected.
The Palestinian leader emphasized that the only effective response to attempts to interfere with Palestinian internal affairs is to return to the Beijing Agreement, which consolidated a unified Palestinian stance.
Netanyahu Dragging Israel into Unprecedented Isolation
Barghouti concluded by declaring that Netanyahu has “dragged Israel into the greatest isolation in its history,” calling him “a madman no different from the leader of Nazism.”
Earlier, dozens of delegations walked out of Netanyahu’s speech at the UNGA in New York in protest.
According to Reuters, presidents and representatives left the hall as soon as he took the podium, reflecting their rejection of his participation. At the same time, activists gathered outside UN headquarters to denounce Israel’s genocide in Gaza. (PW)
