Iraq’s top Shia cleric Ayatollah Sistani congratulates Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei on his election as Leader and reaffirms support for Iran’s unity and defense.
Iraq, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Sistani has sent a congratulatory message to Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei following his election as the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, wishing him success in his new responsibility.
In the message, the office of Ayatollah Sistani honored the memory of the late Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khamenei (may God be pleased with him), and expressed hope that his successor, Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei (may God protect him), will succeed in serving the great Iranian nation, confronting hostile threats, and preserving national unity and cohesion.
Ayatollah Sistani: Popular Support for Iran Is a “Collective Religious Duty”
Earlier, Ayatollah Sistani—one of the most senior Shia religious authorities in Iraq—had emphasized the obligation of jihad al-kifai (collective religious obligation) to defend the Islamic Revolution of Iran in response to a religious inquiry submitted by one of his followers.
In response to a religious query, the senior Shia authority stressed the necessity of collective defense to protect the Islamic Revolution of Iran.
The office of the senior religious authority in Najaf also strongly condemned what it described as an unjust war, calling on all Muslims and free people around the world to denounce it and express solidarity with the oppressed Iranian nation.
It further urged influential international actors and countries around the world—especially Islamic nations—to exert all possible efforts to halt the war and pursue a peaceful and just solution to Iran’s nuclear issue in accordance with international law. (PW)
