Ayatollah Khamenei Condemns Trump’s Middle East Remarks as Embarrassment to Americans
Iran’s Supreme Leader and Officials Respond Sharply to US President’s Accusations and Rhetoric During Gulf Tour

Tehran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has strongly criticised recent remarks made by US President Donald Trump during his Middle East tour, calling them a source of disgrace for both Trump and the American people. Speaking at a state ceremony in Tehran on May 17, Khamenei dismissed Trump’s comments as “so low” that they were not even worth responding to, stating,
“The level of those remarks is so low that they are a disgrace for the one who uttered them and a disgrace to the American nation”.
Khamenei accused Trump of lying about his intentions for peace in the region, pointing out that the US continues to supply advanced weaponry to Israel, which he described as a “dangerous cancerous tumour” that must be “uprooted.” He further asserted that the United States, under Trump’s leadership, has supported the “massacring” of Palestinians and others across the region, contradicting Trump’s stated desire for peace.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed Khamenei’s sentiments, questioning the sincerity of Trump’s message.
“Which one of this president’s words should we believe? His message of peace, or his message of massacre of human beings?”
Pezeshkian asked, highlighting the contradiction between Trump’s calls for peace and his support for military actions and sanctions.
The US president’s tour included meetings with leaders in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, where he praised their development efforts while criticising Iran’s leadership for alleged corruption and mismanagement. Trump claimed that Iran’s “landmarks are collapsing into rubble” and accused its leaders of turning “green farmland into dry deserts.”
Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament chief Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, rejected Trump’s claims and proposals regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Araghchi stated that no written proposal had been received from the US and criticised Washington’s “confusing and contradictory” rhetoric. Ghalibaf described Trump’s remarks as “delusional.”
The sharp exchange comes amid ongoing, but stalled, nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US, with both sides expressing skepticism about reaching a new agreement. Khamenei reiterated Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear enrichment and dismissed any suggestion that Iran would abandon this right under US pressure.
The controversy was further inflamed by Trump’s suggestion that he might start referring to the “Persian Gulf” as the “Arabian Gulf,” a move that drew widespread condemnation from Iranians across the political spectrum.
As tensions remain high, both Iranian and US officials have indicated a preference for de-escalation, but mutual distrust and harsh rhetoric continue to hinder diplomatic progress. (PW)
