Ayatollah Javadi Amoli: Iran's Victory Proved 'Divine Help Transcends Outward Calculations'
The senior cleric urges vigilance against enemy plots and calls on Iran's ambassador to Russia to build scholarly ties with Muslim thinkers there
Grand Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli has called for vigilance in the face of relentless enemy plots, saying that divine assistance, together with the faith of the people, remains the guarantor of the Islamic community’s triumph.
The senior cleric made the remarks during a meeting with Kazem Jalali, Iran’s ambassador to Russia, offering condolences and honouring the memory of the martyred Leader and the recent martyrs. Those martyrs, he said, had not only brought dignity and honour to the faith but also pride to Iran and the flag of the Islamic Republic, demonstrating that “divine victory transcends outward calculations.” No one, he added, had imagined that Iran would stand up to the global powers in such a manner and disgrace them.
Citing the Holy Quran, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli described the nation’s victory as a manifestation of divine promise. As God states in the verse “It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers” (Surah al-Anfal, Chapter 8, The Spoils of War, Verse 62), he said, God aids the Islamic community both through unseen assistance and through the presence and faith of the people, and recent events were a clear example of that divine tradition.
A weightier duty in Russia
Addressing the ambassador’s mission, the cleric stressed that Iran’s representatives carry a responsibility beyond the political. “We are not only Iranian; we are also Muslim,” he said, urging Jalali to establish scholarly and theological ties with Muslim scholars and thinkers in Russia. Such engagement, he said, should centre on core themes — theology, the Hereafter, the reality of the human being, and fundamental doctrinal questions of God’s existence and the reality of eternity — because such dialogue can awaken the divine primordial nature within people.
He recalled the historic delivery of Imam Khomeini’s message to Mikhail Gorbachev as an enduring model of engagement. That letter, he said, was not political or diplomatic correspondence but an instructive message, one calling upon the human being to reflect on his own truth, on God, and on his eternal destiny — teachings that must continue to be pursued in dialogue with thinkers across the world.
‘Every day they plot’
Turning to the threats facing the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli issued a stark warning about the persistent nature of enemy conspiracies. Israel, he said, is perpetually engaged in treachery and espionage, invoking the Quranic verse describing an enemy from whom “you will constantly discover treachery” (Surah al-Maʾidah, Chapter 5, The Table Spread, Verse 13). Experience had shown, he said, that enemies were using espionage networks to strike at the Iranian nation, and that maintaining insight and reliance upon God was the secret to the country’s dignity and authority.
In closing, the Grand Ayatollah again stressed the need to expand intellectual and theological ties with Muslim thinkers in Russia, expressing hope that, through the exposition of rational and Quranic teachings, the path would be further paved for the spread of truth, justice, and the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) across the world.
