MANAMA, Bahrain — Bahrain’s foremost Shia religious authority, Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, has issued a resounding rejection of the Bahraini regime’s recent legislative decisions targeting the country’s Shia Muslim majority, declaring the policies fundamentally incompatible with divine monotheism.
In a strongly worded statement addressing the ongoing systemic marginalisation of Bahraini Shia citizens, Ayatollah Qassim condemned the “domineering policies” of the ruling regime. He asserted that the new decrees hold no validity in the eyes of the faithful, emphasising that “for the servants of God, there is no legislation except from God, who is the absolute Lord and Deity.”
Addressing the stance of the oppressed community, the senior cleric highlighted the unified front of the believers. He stated that the collective and individual response to the regime’s overreach remains singular and resolute: the core declaration of monotheism, “La ilaha illa Allah” (There is no god but Allah).
Ayatollah Qassim explained that this theological stance represents a “serious confrontation” with the state’s oppressive measures. He noted that no political compromise or remedy can bridge the gap between the regime’s decrees and the principles of Islam, describing the faith of the believers as “neither broken nor defeated.”
Furthermore, the Ayatollah stressed that the opposition to the regime is not driven by worldly political calculations or partisan interests, but is a “purely rational and practical stance” mandated by religious duty.
“A true Muslim knows that if he asks his Muslim brother to oppose his great Lord in His commands and prohibitions and to prioritise his own will over God’s will, what an impossible thing he has asked of him,” Ayatollah Qassim stated.
Concluding his message, the religious leader reaffirmed the ultimate supremacy of the divine will over state authority, asserting that no earthly power or regime possesses the capacity to resist or override the decree of God.
