Araqchi: Iran Will Respond Decisively to US and Israeli Breaches of Memorandum
Iran's FM says Tehran remains committed to implementing the war-ending memorandum in good faith, but will respond decisively to any violations by the United States and the Israeli regime.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM – Iranian Foreign Minister Sayyed Abbas Araqchi declared that the Islamic Republic will act decisively against any breach of the memorandum that ended the recent imposed war, stating that Iran remains committed to implementing the agreement in good faith based on the principle of “commitment for commitment.”
The remarks were made during his meetings on Sunday with senior Iraqi officials as part of his official visit to Baghdad.
Iran Warns Against Violations of War-Ending Memorandum
During talks with Iraqi President Nizar Amidi, Araqchi conveyed the warm greetings of Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, while congratulating Iraq on the formation of its new government and reaffirming Tehran’s determination to expand cooperation with Baghdad across all sectors.
The two sides reviewed bilateral relations in the political, economic, security, and people-to-people fields, while also discussing regional security developments following the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran, including the insecurity imposed on the Strait of Hormuz.
Referring to the memorandum that brought the imposed war to an end, Araqchi said violations committed by the United States and the Israeli regime—particularly of its first clause—pose a serious obstacle to restoring regional security and stability.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is pursuing implementation of the memorandum in good faith based on the principle of ‘commitment for commitment,’ but it will also act decisively in response to breaches by the other parties,” he said.
Iraq Reaffirms Support for Iran
President Amidi reiterated Iraq’s principled position in supporting the Iranian people against foreign aggression and stressed that regional countries should strengthen cooperation to establish lasting peace and stability throughout West Asia.
Araqchi also thanked the Iraqi government and people for hosting millions of Iranian pilgrims visiting the holy shrines. He described Iraq’s upcoming funeral ceremonies for the Martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution as a unique opportunity to deepen solidarity and friendship between the Iranian and Iraqi nations, while expressing appreciation for Baghdad’s preparations.
Collective Security Is the Path to Regional Stability
Araqchi later met Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi, where he reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation, including parliamentary diplomacy, and strengthen coordination in support of regional peace and stability.
Explaining Iran’s position on recent regional security developments, the foreign minister said lasting peace and security in West Asia require a new regional approach shaped by the lessons of the past year. He expressed hope that regional states would work together to build a system of collective security founded on mutual trust and cooperation.
The two sides also reviewed the expanding relationship between Iran and Iraq and exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, including the recent agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States that brought the war to an end. (PW)
