Araghchi Visits China Ahead of the Third Round of US-Iran Indirect Talks
Abbas Araghchi embarks on a strategic visit to Beijing to boost Tehran-Beijing ties and consult on nuclear talks
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left Tehran for Beijing on Tuesday night (Tehran local time) to hold high-level consultations with senior Chinese officials. This marks his second visit to Beijing since taking office.
Message from Iranian President to Xi Jinping
During the visit, Araghchi is carrying an official message from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed to Chinese President Xi Jinping. The trip is part of Iran's ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen its strategic alliances.
Araghchi’s China trip follows a recent visit to Moscow, where he delivered a written message from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and held discussions with Russian officials. He had announced during the Moscow trip that Beijing would be his next diplomatic stop.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Highlights Close Ties
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, emphasized the importance of continued high-level dialogue between Iran and China. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote,
“Continuous and close consultations between the two sides at high levels are a clear sign of the resolve of the leaders of the two countries to expand relations in all areas of mutual interest.”
China’s Role in Nuclear Negotiations
Baghaei further highlighted China's role as a key player in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and its potential influence in the ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States.
“China, as a permanent member of the Security Council and an influential country in previous processes, and a country that is a participant of the JCPOA and has very close relations and a strategic partnership with us, can play a constructive and influential role in any process,” he stated.
Objectives of the Visit
Baghaei noted that the visit had been pre-planned, and one of its main purposes is to update Chinese officials on the progress of Iran-US indirect talks. Another key focus will be following up on bilateral agreements and enhancing strategic cooperation.
“A significant portion of the trip is to follow up on the implementation of bilateral agreements between the two countries in line with the goal of broadening the relationship,” Baghaei concluded. (PW)
