Araghchi to UN Chief: US Incitement Seeks to Pave the Way for War on Iran
Tehran denounces Washington and Israel for fueling armed riots, arming terrorist networks, and abusing the UN Security Council to internationalize Iran’s internal affairs
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said statements by US officials encouraging violence inside Iran are deliberately aimed at creating conditions for American military aggression.
In a phone call with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Araghchi said remarks by American officials inciting armed riots and the killing of Iranian citizens were intended to “pave the way for an American military intervention” in Iran.
He described such actions as interference in Iran’s internal affairs and stressed that responsibility for the killing of Iranian citizens lies with the US administration.
At the same time, Araghchi said Iran remains committed to supporting human rights, including the right to peaceful assembly.
Iran Points to Israel’s Role and US Support for Armed Groups
Araghchi underscored what he described as the clarity of Israel’s direct role in arming and organizing terrorist groups involved in the recent riots.
He added that these activities have been carried out with political and logistical backing from the United States, holding both parties responsible for the violence and instability caused by the armed unrest.
Tehran Urges UN to Reject Politicization of Security Council
Araghchi called on the United Nations and the Secretary-General to take a clear stance, urging them to condemn interference in Iran’s internal affairs and the arming of terrorist groups targeting Iranian citizens and security forces.
“We expect the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to condemn interference in Iran’s affairs and the incitement of unrest through arming terrorists,” he said.
Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei described calls to convene a UN Security Council meeting on Iran as a “fabricated and deceptive” maneuver.
Baghaei said Washington is seeking to use the Security Council to shift blame and promote false narratives about the situation inside Iran, as the Council convened an emergency meeting on Thursday at the request of the United States.
The meeting took place as President Donald Trump reportedly refrained from specifying what measures Washington might take against the Islamic Republic. (PW)
