Araghchi Arrives in Geneva as Second Round of Iran–U.S. Nuclear Talks Begins
Iran’s foreign minister says Tehran seeks a fair deal in Geneva, rejecting pressure and threats as indirect nuclear talks with the U.S. enter a new phase.
Geneva | PUREWILAYAH.COM — Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, has arrived in Geneva to take part in the second round of indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States, alongside broader diplomatic consultations.
The visit comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement over Iran’s nuclear file, with talks being mediated by Oman and supported by technical, legal, and economic experts from the Iranian side.
Araghchi: No Submission Under Threats
In a statement issued from Geneva, Araghchi stressed that Iran’s approach to the negotiations is based on substance and equity, not coercion.
“I am in Geneva with real ideas to achieve a fair and equitable deal,” he said. “What is not on the table is submission before threats.”
His remarks underscore Tehran’s long-standing position that negotiations must be conducted on the basis of mutual respect, rather than pressure or intimidation.
Grossi–Araghchi Meeting
On Monday, Araghchi met with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in Geneva.
According to officials, the meeting focused on technical matters related to Iran–IAEA cooperation within the framework of Iran’s safeguards commitments and in line with Iranian parliamentary legislation.
Iranian officials also presented their technical viewpoints regarding the indirect nuclear talks with Washington, signaling the transition from preliminary contacts to a more substantive phase.
Oman to Mediate Iran–U.S. Talks
The second round of indirect Iran–U.S. nuclear negotiations is scheduled to be held on Tuesday in Geneva, with mediation by Badr al-Busaidi.
The talks follow earlier exchanges and are seen as a critical test of whether diplomacy can advance amid continued U.S. pressure and regional tensions.
Geneva Diplomacy and UN Engagement
During his stay, Araghchi is also set to meet with the foreign ministers of Oman and Switzerland and to participate in the United Nations Conference on Disarmament, where he will outline Iran’s official positions on global disarmament and security issues.
The Geneva talks mark a pivotal moment as Tehran seeks to assert its negotiating red lines while advancing what it describes as a just and balanced diplomatic outcome. (PW)
