Al-Taher: "Two-State Solution" is Dead Due to Brutal Zionist Expansion
Arab National Conference Secretary-General Calls for Revival of Arab Unity and Rejects U.S.–Israeli Plans for Gaza’s Future
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM – Maher al-Taher, Secretary-General of the Arab National Conference, declared that the so-called two-state solution is no longer viable due to unprecedented settlement expansion across the occupied West Bank.
In an interview with Al Mayadeen, al-Taher stated that with over one million illegal settlers now residing in the West Bank, the idea of establishing an independent Palestinian state has become “impossible on the ground.”
He framed the Palestinian struggle—and that of the wider Arab world—as an existential battle against the Zionist project, which he said seeks to fragment and weaken all Arab states. Al-Taher noted that Egypt remains the “grand prize” in this broader regional hegemonic plan.
Reviving Arab Unity to Confront Fragmentation
Al-Taher emphasized the urgent need to revive Arab nationalist thought and reinvigorate the sense of pan-Arab identity as the only path to confront division and dependency.
He called for a critical reassessment of the Arab nationalist movement’s historical experience and urged the modernization of its ideological framework to meet contemporary challenges.
He further pointed out that the absence of democracy, weak social structures, and deep internal divisions have all contributed to the erosion of the Arab world’s collective position against the Zionist agenda.
On the Palestinian front, al-Taher underscored that genuine national unity can only be achieved through adherence to resistance and unwavering national principles.
Rejecting U.S.–Israeli Vision for Gaza’s Future
Addressing the future of Gaza, al-Taher firmly rejected the American and Zionist-imposed plans for what is being called “the day after” in the Strip.
He affirmed that Gaza’s governance must remain entirely Palestinian, and that no political arrangement can proceed without the complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces.
Washington’s “Stabilization” Plan Widely Rejected
Current U.S.–Israeli proposals for Gaza’s governance focus on sidelining the Palestinian Resistance and imposing an externally supervised administration. These include placing Gaza under a so-called “technocratic and apolitical Palestinian committee,” managed by an international board led by the United States.
The plan also calls for the disarmament of Palestinian Resistance factions and the deployment of foreign forces—steps widely rejected by Palestinian groups as extensions of occupation and violations of Palestinian sovereignty.
According to three officials involved, the U.S. Central Command is leading efforts to form an International Stabilization Force (ISF), comprising a newly trained Palestinian police force and military units from Arab and Muslim-majority countries.
Several Arab and European nations have voiced opposition to these plans, warning that they would permanently undermine Palestinian sovereignty. Concerns raised include the risk of forced displacement, the creation of demilitarized zones under Israeli control, and the exclusion of Palestinian governance structures.
Al-Taher’s remarks reinforce a growing regional consensus that the Palestinian cause cannot be reduced to imposed frameworks or foreign-led projects, but must remain rooted in resistance, sovereignty, and unity across the Arab world. (PW)
