Al-Qassam Brigades Launch a Deadly Ambush on Israeli Forces in Rafah
Fighters from the Palestinian Resistance carry out a coordinated attack on Israeli engineering and infantry units amid ongoing clashes in Gaza
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Al-Qassam Brigades released a statement providing a detailed account of the ambush that targeted Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in Rafah on Saturday, during the height of what they described as "Israel's" genocidal war on Gaza.
According to the statement, Al-Qassam fighters successfully lured an Israeli engineering unit toward a tunnel entrance that had been pre-rigged with explosives. The operation began with a direct engagement, in which several members of the unit were killed at close range.
Tunnel Explosion and Follow-Up Assault on Israeli Tanks
As additional Israeli soldiers moved closer to the tunnel, the fighters detonated the explosives, inflicting significant casualties, including deaths and injuries. The operation continued with an assault on two Israeli tanks using al-Yassin 105 shells.
Al-Qassam fighters closely monitored Israeli evacuation attempts following the ambush, which occurred east of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
Additional Attack Targets Infantry Unit Near Al-Zahraa Mosque
In a separate operation on the same day, Al-Qassam Brigades reported that their fighters activated an anti-personnel explosive device targeting a six-soldier Israeli infantry unit near Al-Zahraa Mosque in the Al-Janina neighborhood, also located in eastern Rafah. The explosion reportedly caused multiple enemy casualties.
Israeli Military Confirms Deaths and Injuries Among Elite Forces
On Sunday, the Israeli occupation military confirmed that two soldiers, including an officer, had been killed and several others wounded during ongoing confrontations across Gaza.
According to the Israeli spokesperson, one of the deceased was an officer from the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit, with another soldier from the same unit also killed in the incident. The engagement, described by Israeli media as “difficult,” took place during a Golani Brigade operation under the 36th Division, which was combing a building when the tunnel and explosive were discovered.
Critical Injuries Reported Among IOF Personnel
The Israeli military further reported that another Yahalom unit soldier sustained critical injuries in the same ambush. Additionally, a reserve soldier from the 7007 Battalion of the Jerusalem [Al-Quds] (16th) Brigade was critically wounded during clashes in northern Gaza on Saturday. (PW)
