Baghdad — In a stern rebuke of the Iraqi government’s recent decisions, Sheikh Ali al-Asadi, head of the Political Council for Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, heavily criticised Baghdad’s move to prevent Iranian aircraft from landing at Iraqi airports, describing it as a direct submission to American pressure.
Speaking in an interview with Al Mayadeen, Sheikh al-Asadi expressed deep regret over the Iraqi authorities’ decision, labelling it “submission to American bullying.” He issued a clear ultimatum to Iraqi decision-makers, urging them to reconsider the ban or face imminent popular action aimed at reversing the move.
“The issue goes beyond airports,” Sheikh al-Asadi emphasised, highlighting the deep-rooted and strategic ties between Iraq and Iran. “We must not bow to an irresponsible decision by America. Popular options will be the most pressing, and all possibilities are on the table.”
Sovereignty and the Weakness of the Political Class
The Islamic Resistance leader attributed the growing influence of the American occupation in Iraq to the inherent weakness of the domestic political class. He argued that this vulnerability has allowed Washington to dictate its will upon Baghdad, stressing that the Iraqi decision-maker has the agency to refuse American diktats, just as other nations do.
“Sovereignty means complete independence, with Iraq being the decision-maker in all aspects of life—politically, economically, and in terms of security,” Sheikh al-Asadi declared. He firmly stated that Iraq must remain free of US interference, asserting that the American envoy has no right to meddle in Baghdad’s internal affairs.
Exposing Covert American Assassination Units
In a stark revelation, the al-Nujaba chief disclosed that the Islamic Resistance is closely monitoring all American movements within the country, including a newly established covert division.
“We have information about all the American movements and about the division they established, which includes Iraqis under their supervision. We know where this division is located and what its duties will be in the coming phase,” Sheikh al-Asadi warned. He exposed that the primary objective of this newly formed unit is to carry out assassinations and sow discord within Iraq, drawing a direct parallel to the notorious American mercenary firm. “It is like ‘Blackwater’ under another name,” he stated.
Rejection of American Bribes and the Endless Nature of US Aggression
Sheikh al-Asadi also shed light on recent attempts by US allies and officials to negotiate with the Islamic Resistance. He noted that several American allies had reached out seeking a truce, and even the American chargé d’affaires attempted to initiate contact through intermediary politicians.
Furthermore, he revealed that US officials had attempted to bribe the Resistance factions with projects and incentives in exchange for surrendering strategic weapons capable of reaching the Zionist entity. “We rejected them,” he affirmed, emphasising the movement’s unwavering commitment to its strategic deterrent.
Concluding his remarks with a warning about the true nature of American imperialism, Sheikh al-Asadi cautioned that US pressure is boundless. “American pressure does not stop at any point,” he explained. “Even if the factions hand over their weapons, they will move on to target the Popular Mobilisation Forces [PMF], and then the Defence Ministry.”
The al-Nujaba chief’s remarks serve as a powerful reminder to the Iraqi government that the Islamic Resistance remains vigilant and fully prepared to defend Iraq’s sovereignty against any foreign diktats or covert operations.
