Al-Houthi: Iran's Survival Halted a Plan That Began With Syria and Had No Last Stop
Yemen's Ansarullah leader says the war on Iran served the 'Greater Israel' project, and calls Tehran's endurance a victory for the whole Ummah
Yemen’s Ansarullah leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, has said the US-Israeli war on Iran was intended to topple the country’s political system and break it apart, arguing that Iran’s success in withstanding the assault amounts to a victory for the entire Islamic nation.
In a televised speech on Thursday, al-Houthi placed the campaign against the Islamic Republic within a wider plan to reshape West Asia and establish a “Greater Israel.” Had the effort against Tehran succeeded, he warned, it would have opened the way to targeting the region’s peoples one after another, beginning with Syria.
“They wanted to silence Iran,” he said, “but Iran’s victory was a victory for the entire nation and for all the peoples of our region.”
The ‘Greater Israel’ question
The term has resurfaced in Israeli political discourse in recent years. In August of last year, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Israeli media that he felt a deep connection to what he called “this vision” — a reference encompassing the occupied Palestinian territories along with parts of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon — describing it as a historical and spiritual mission. The remarks drew sharp condemnation from a number of regional states.
Al-Houthi argued that this project lies behind the region’s wars, and pointed to the pattern of territorial expansion. Israel occupied the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967, and has more recently pushed beyond the internationally monitored buffer zone to establish new positions in southern Syria, including the strategically significant Jabal al-Shaikh. In Lebanon, it has carved out a buffer zone inside the country’s territory and conducted airstrikes affecting close to a fifth of the nation, displacing more than a million people.
‘They do not honour agreements’
The Ansarullah leader accused the United States and Israel of showing no regard for international agreements or United Nations resolutions, citing Washington’s continued violations of its understanding with Iran. The Americans, he said, are like the Israelis in disregarding agreements, breaking their promises, and reneging on clear and declared commitments.
He described the United States, Israel, and their allies as the principal source of instability and threat to international order, saying their policies undermine global stability through war and the exploitation of other nations’ resources, and holding them responsible for the killing and destruction in Gaza and across the region. Alongside military means, he said, they are waging a “soft war” aimed at eroding Islamic identity and stripping people of their values.
On Lebanon, al-Houthi said Hezbollah’s positions and Iran’s support for the movement should be recognised and made use of by the Lebanese state, affirming that the Axis of Resistance would not abandon the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon or withhold the assistance it needs.
Turning to the recent Saudi strikes on Sana’a airport, he said the Saudi-led campaign against Yemen had continued for years without legal justification, and had been waged in loyalty to Washington and Tel Aviv.
