Al-Hayya: Mediators Free to Choose the Names of Members of Gaza Committee
Senior Hamas official affirms consensus with Palestinian factions on Gaza’s administration, reconstruction, and ceasefire, stressing that resistance weapons remain linked to the presence of occupation
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya said that the movement has given mediators full freedom to choose the names of members of the administrative committee that will manage the Gaza Strip, confirming that the body will hold full authority in the territory.
In an interview with Al Jazeera on Sunday evening, al-Hayya said that national issues belong to all Palestinian forces, not Hamas alone, noting that the movement has held several meetings with other factions, including Fatah.
He stated that the agreements reached with other Palestinian factions are almost identical to those discussed with Fatah, and that Hamas approved the list of names proposed by Egyptian mediators.
Coordination with Egypt and Factions
Al-Hayya explained that about four months ago, Hamas submitted to Egypt a list of more than 40 national figures with no political affiliation, giving Cairo the freedom to select the most suitable names.
He added that a civil police force will operate under the committee’s authority in Gaza, while all factions agreed to form an international body for reconstruction, tasked with raising funds and supervising rebuilding projects.
Al-Hayya reaffirmed Hamas’s commitment to maintaining the ceasefire, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, and beginning reconstruction immediately.
He called on mediators and the international community to accelerate reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
Resistance and Occupation
Al-Hayya stressed that the weapons of the resistance remain linked to the existence of occupation and aggression, adding that the issue is still being discussed with mediators and factions.
“We will not give the occupation a pretext to resume the war on Gaza,” he said, noting that the occupation failed to achieve its goals over the past two years and has no motivation to return to war.
He pointed to U.S. statements, including by President Donald Trump, acknowledging that the war has effectively ended, describing the Israeli defeat as an unprecedented setback in the entity’s history. (PW)
