Airstrikes Target Civilian Infrastructure in Yemeni Capital
Yemeni officials report casualties and blame Israel for the attacks, vowing to continue their support for Palestine.
Sanaa, Yemen, PUREWILAYAH.COM - A series of airstrikes struck Yemen's capital, Sanaa, on Sunday, August 24, 2025, targeting key civilian infrastructure and resulting in casualties, according to local officials. The attacks hit a petroleum depot and a central power station, leading to widespread power outages in the city.
The Yemeni Petroleum Company's station on Al-Sitteen Street and the recently repaired Haziz power station were among the sites hit. The attacks resulted in the deaths of at least two people and left 35 others injured, according to a preliminary report from the Yemeni Health Ministry.
The government in Sanaa condemned the strikes as a "flagrant violation of Yemen's sovereignty" and a "war crime." A statement from the government held both Israel and the United States responsible for the aggression, asserting Yemen's right to defend its territory and people.
Officials from Ansar Allah reiterated that the attacks would not deter them from their support for the Palestinian people. A military source also claimed that Yemeni air defences had successfully intercepted the attacking aircraft, forcing them to retreat.
The government's statement affirmed that Yemen would continue its "legitimate and unwavering stance" in support of Palestine, describing it as a "religious, national, and humanitarian duty." (PW)
