Afghanistan: We Will Support Iran in the Event of Any U.S. Aggression
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid says Afghanistan opposes war but is ready to assist Iran if the U.S. attacks, citing stronger Kabul–Tehran ties.
Afghanistan, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government has stated it would support Iran in the event of any U.S. aggression. Speaking to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, Zabihullah Mujahid, the senior spokesman of the Taliban government, addressed questions about Kabul’s position regarding a potential U.S. attack on Iran.
“We hope that war between the two countries does not occur,” Mujahid said. “But if any request is made of us, Afghans are ready—within our capabilities—to cooperate with the Iranian nation in addressing the hardships of war.”
Mujahid: Iran Has the Right and Capacity to Defend Itself
Mujahid stressed that Afghanistan does not favor war or conflict, but pointed to past outcomes to underline Iran’s resilience.
“If you recall, the last time the Islamic Republic of Iran was attacked, the result was that Iran emerged victorious,” he said. “I believe the same would happen again, because Iran has the capability, Iran is in the right, and it has the legitimate right to defend itself.”
Improving Kabul–Tehran Relations and Past Condemnations
In an interview with Radio Pashto, Mujahid said relations between Kabul and Tehran are better than ever, noting that both countries respect one another and that bilateral ties are moving in a positive direction.
He added that Afghanistan’s ruling authorities had already condemned Israeli attacks on Iran last summer, reiterating at the time that Iran had prevailed in the 12-day war.
Previously, Nadim Mohammad Nadim, the Taliban’s minister of higher education, criticized some Islamic countries for what he described as weakness in the face of U.S. pressure. He emphasized that Iran is under pressure precisely because it refuses to submit to Washington.
Nadim also addressed recent unrest in Iran, saying that when Iran confronts rioters, the U.S. labels it a human rights violation, while Washington violently suppresses peaceful protests on its own soil—calling this double standard a sign of fear. (PW)
