Activist: Yemen Asserts Its Maritime Sovereignty, Will Not Bow to Western Pressure
Political activist warns that external military bases in Eritrea and Western interference pose a direct threat to Yemen’s national interests and independent decision-making.
Yemen, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Political activist Fahmi Al-Yousfi affirmed that Yemen is committed to its land and maritime sovereignty, stressing that any foreign intervention — including Israeli, French, American, and British military bases in Eritrea — constitutes a threat to Yemen’s national interests.
Al-Yousfi explained in his remarks to Al-Masirah TV that Yemen’s freedom to manage the Red Sea is tied to liberating the country from any external guardianship, noting that its sovereignty will only be achieved through an independent national decision free from Western pressure.
He added, “Ethiopia seeks to exploit its position in the oil-rich Ogaden region, even though the region historically belongs to Somalia. This control reflects the legacies of British, Italian, and French colonialism, and opens the door to Western interventions to secure their interests in the region.”
Sanaa Sends Clear Messages: Yemen Will Protect Its Interests and Rejects Compromised Alliances
He continued, “Sanaa’s recent statements serve as clear messages to the international community, indicating that Yemen is capable of protecting its land and maritime interests and will not be part of any alliances that contradict its sovereignty.”
He further explained that any country hosting foreign military bases is considered aligned with the party that owns those bases, which makes Yemen uninterested in joining alliances built on such a foundation. He warned of Western and American attempts to recycle old justifications for their failure to control the Red Sea.
Yemen’s Military Capabilities Generate Anxiety Among Israel and Western Powers
Al-Yousfi noted that Yemen has succeeded in responding to U.S. military industries, including missiles and aircraft, which has created a sense of anxiety in Israel and its allies.
He pointed out that Yemen’s firm stance reflects the country’s ability to protect its sovereignty and the independence of its national decision without succumbing to international pressure. (PW)
