By Staff, Agencies In a letter to the United Nations [UN] Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that deliberate targeting of a safeguarded nuclear facility is nuclear terrorism and a war crim In a series of tweets on late Monday, Zarif wrote: I wrote to UNSG: Deliberate targeting of a safeguarded nuclear facility—w/ high risk of indiscriminate release of radioactive material—is nuclear terrorism & a war crime. ‘Israel’ threatened and now boasts about action to prevent restoration of JCPOA after US election. If US wants to avert consequences of this foolish gamble, it must cease to consider economic terrorism perpetrated by Trump or recent nuclear terrorism as negotiating leverage & remove all sanctions imposed, re-imposed or relabeled since the adoption of the JCPOA After timely verification of removal of all US sanctions, Iran will respond by stopping all remedial measures—which will now take a significant upward leap following this latest terrorist sabotage. Earlier on Monday and during a session of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Zarif stressed that Natanz would be stronger than before after it was reconstructed using advanced machines and that the perpetrators were wrong to think the act of sabotage would undermine Iran’s position in the nuclear negotiations.

Following the attack on Sunday, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran [AEOI] Ali Akbar Salehi slammed the act of sabotage, saying the international community and the IAEA must deal with such “nuclear terrorism” that targets Iran’s facilities.

The act of sabotage came a day after Iran began feeding gas to cascades of new, advanced centrifuges and unveiled 133 achievements to mark its National Nuclear Technology Day and show the peaceful nature of its nuclear program
