This plane belongs to the Iran Air Tour airliner.

From now on, it has a name: Miremad Hasani.

Miremad is perhaps the most important figure in the history of Persian calligraphy. The measure comes as part of an initiative to name 10 jets after outstanding dignitaries in the history of art, literature and science in Iran.

The move took effect following an agreement signed between the Iranian Commission of UNESCO and Iran Air Tour.

Miremad plane made its debut flight under the new name from Tehran to Mashhad.

Miremad Hasan lived in the 16th century and his legacy in the Persian Nastaliq writing style is recognized by Persian calligraphers around the world.

Experts say history is a nation's identity.

Iranian artists say in the modern world, it is important to keep the names of well-known personalities alive and introduce them to the next generation in order to preserve the Persian identity.

Cultural officials here say amid the exponential technological advances, societies are losing their touch with art and culture.

Now decorating airplanes with the names of renowned dignitaries is viewed as a creative step toward reuniting modern communities with their rich history
