As observers say, Pakistan’s government may have current American President Donald Trump as its favorite candidate in next week’s presidential election.

The reason is the Pakistan-backed peace deal the White House finalized with the Taliban early this year to withdraw all American troops from neighboring Afghanistan. However, many people in Pakistan make little distinction between the Republican Party’s candidate, Donald Trump, and the Democratic Party’s contestant, Joe Bidden.

This is because of the fact that tens of thousands of people lost their lives, with over 250 billion US dollars in losses to the country’s economy, after successive Pakistani governments backed the so-called US war on terror under both Republican and Democratic presidents during the last almost 20 years. A significant number of people in Pakistan see Joe Biden, the former Democratic US vice president, in a negative shade since under his advice, the US government expanded the espionage operations and drone attacks in the country’s bordering region with Afghanistan, killing over 4,000 innocent people. The image of Donald Trump is also not very different.

Many Pakistanis perceive Donald Trump as an anti-Muslim American political figure.

Trump thickened bilateral ties with Pakistan's arch-rival India, which has been allegedly persecuting Muslims particularly in the disputed Kashmir region. People here, like elsewhere in the Muslim world, are also very angry at US President Donald Trump over his alleged underhanded wheeling-dealings in the western Asia region, which led some Arab rulers to diplomatically recognize the Israeli regime against the wishes of their own people.

They also expect no different approach from Biden. The anti-US sentiments in Pakistan have been high over repeated invasions and killing of people in the Muslim countries, and therefore, they least expect any US president to reverse anti-Muslim policies.
