Rahshan Saglam Press TV, Istanbul Turkish defense minister Hulusi Akar said Turkey and Italy share similar views over various issues, especially things related to the conflicts in the Mediterranean. He made the comments in a joint presser with his Italian counterpart Lorenzo Guerini.

Before the presser, the two ministers discussed a wide range of issues including the ongoing armed conflict in Libya, Syria and eastern Mediterranean.

The meeting comes after a crucial visit that Akar had paid to libya.

A meeting for delegations from the two NATO countries also took place on the same day where joint military exercises in the Mediterranean were discussed.

Both Ankara and Rome agree on regional issues and have similar interests.

Italy's defense chief, for his part, considered the meeting as friendly and positive.

Both Turkey and Italy support the internationally recognized Libyan government led by prime minister Fayez Al-sarraj.

Turkey and Italy are both worried about the support of some NATO and Arab countries that General Khalifa haftar is getting, assuring that such support would further divide the country and deepen the conflict.

Libya has been struggling with an internal conflict since the ousting of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, with the current UN recognized government trying to lead a settlement, however trials have failed due to continuous assaults by General Haftar.

Many say, Turkey's support to Sarraj government is to ensure its right in the eastern Mediterranean asserted by the maritime pact between Ankara and Tripoli.

However this support has led to some sanctions against Ankara imposed by some EU countries
