After several delays due to the coronavirus, Iran's major ICT event finally opened its doors to tech savvies. The 21st international exhibition of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Innovative CIT Solutions is now underway in Tehran.

Some 200 Iranian and foreign companies have attended this year's show to showcase their services.

A major difference in this year's expo is the strong presence of venture capital funds and accelerators, which occupied a separate hall in the expo.

In recent years, an increasing number of sponsoring firms have turned to ICT to support innovative ideas and lead them to the market.

The ICT sector in Iran has seen a boom in recent years.

One major drive behind this growth is the US-led sanctions on Iran’s economy.

It seems ironic, but in fact, this challenge has prompted local firms to double down on their efforts to compensate for the shortcoming.

As our lives are becoming increasingly intertwined with the zeros and ones, Iranian tech companies are trying to keep abreast of the fast pace of growth in the ICT sector, despite all the pressure caused by sanctions.

They say the potential is there, and that government support can catalyze this progress
