In a recent meeting held in Tehran between Ambassador of Italy to Iran Giuseppe Perrone and Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, it has been outlined that the two governments intend to strengthen their cooperation on artificial intelligence. The Italian ambassador has stressed the fact that some Italian information and communication technology companies are active in Iran despite the sanctions imposed by Washington.

He has also called for Rome and Tehran to begin their negotiations on digital economy collaboration and cooperation.

The European Union is investing 20 billion euros in artificial intelligence in these years and it expects that all the other nations in Europe invests another 20 billions.

And Italy will comply to this idea.

About three weeks ago, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio told his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in a phone conversation that Italy was eyeing the development of ties with Iran despite US sanctions.

On Thursday, Italy's Foreign Minister Luigi Maio was asked about the state of relations between Italy and Iran during question time in the Senate.

Di Maio has reiterated cultural ties between Rome and Tehran are strong.

In the past days, Di Maio and Zarif also discussed on Europe's commitments under the JCPOA, and ways to maintain the 2015 nuclear deal
