Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei expressed on Sunday deep gratitude to the Iranian nation for the widespread participation in the February 21 nationwide elections.

Addressing a religious class hailed the people for thwarting the opportunistic plots and campaign of enemies for harming the polls.

'This negative propaganda began a few months ago and grew larger approaching the election and in the past two days, under the pretext of an illness and a virus, their media did not miss the slightest opportunity to discourage people from voting,' said Imam Khamenei, referring to reports by Western media on Coronavirus cases in Iran.

'(Our enemies) are even opposed to any election by the Iranian people,' the Leader was quoted as saying by Iranian media.

Imam Khamneei added, meanwhile, that “Almighty God has determined to make the Iranian nation victorious despite all those vicious efforts.” His eminence urged the Iranian nation to always be “ready to counter the enemy’s plots that aim to inflict damage to the country’s different pillars of power.” He also called on Iranian officials to provide people with honest services in order to reciprocate people’s move accordingly.
