Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has called on the UK to expel fugitive former premier, Nawaz Sharif. In an interview with a private TV channel, Khan suggested he is willing to travel to the UK in order to expedite Sharif’s deportation, and presumably extradition to Pakistan.

Sharif, who has served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan for three non-consecutive terms, traveled to the UK late last year ostensibly to receive medical treatment.

In 2017, Sharif – who is the longest-serving Pakistani Prime Minister having served a total of more than 9 years – was removed from office by the Supreme Court following the

 scandal.

The following year, the Pakistani Supreme Court disqualified the former premier from holding public office.

Sharif was subsequently sentenced to ten years in prison by an accountability court.

Demonstrating steely determination to extradite Sharif, Khan said he will speak to British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, about the case.

“We will bring him [Nawaz] back and throw him in jail”, Khan proclaimed.

“The federal [Pakistani] government is in talks with the UK authorities and the extradition process could take time”, Khan added.

Sharif, 70, is believed to be safely living in the UK where he enjoys the support of a sizeable section of the British-Pakistani community.

The British authorities have yet to formally react to Khan’s requests but it is widely thought that any extradition process could prove lengthy and is unlikely to succeed
