Students in Khartoum protested on Tuesday (July 30) against the killing of four schoolchildren in the Sudanese city of El-Obeid. At least four schoolchildren and one adult were shot dead on Monday (July 29) when security forces broke up a rally against fuel and bread shortages in the capital of North Kordofan State.

On Tuesday, Sudan military rulers said the El-Obeid killings were unacceptable and demanded immediate accountability, according to state news agency SUNA The Forces of Freedom and Change coalition, comprised of Sudanese opposition groups, accused military and paramilitary forces of opening fire on the high school pupils and called for nationwide protests in response.
