Over 30 workers were rescued after an explosion in a Teutschenthal mine outside the eastern German city of Halle on Friday. The rescue operation was carried out by firefighters after workers escaped to a safe room supplied with oxygen about 700 meters (2,300 feet) below ground level.
Media reports say two workers of Polish and German nationality suffered injuries.
Teutschenthal served as a potash salt mine for 80 years until its closure in 1982 when it was transformed into a backfill mine.
